Roland Meredith - Chair of Governors

I have spent my working life in education, the first 9 as a teacher, the next 6 setting up and leading Art and Design Faculties in FE colleges and the last 12 or so as an education consultant.

All my children went to Horsforth School and my association with the school goes back over 22 years, including being a member of the Friends of Horsforth School and an even closer relationship through my wife Audrey who was an art teacher and Curriculum Leader for Art.

My work as a consultant includes supporting schools in making significant change to the ways they deliver education to young people. During the last 10 years I have worked with over 250 schools (either directly, or by leading teams of education consultants) 30 Local Authorities and numerous sponsors through work related to Building Schools for the Future, new Academies, Studio Schools, University Technology Colleges and Free Schools.

I am the Chair of STEMtech, an initiative to try and get policy makers, educators and employers into focused conversations about how we might be able to encourage more young people into engineering, pharmaceuticals and related industries by making changes to the way we design and deliver our school curriculum in the UK.

As a governor I have work with 3 different Headteachers at Horsforth School always focused on how we can continue to design and deliver an education to the young people of our community that provides opportunity and positive progression pathways for all.
