Helen Shearer - Community Governor

My name is Helen and I've been a community governor at Horsforth School for 15 years, the last 10 years of which I have been chair of the Curriculum committee. I am also a member of the Pastoral committee and have responsibilities as Equalities governor. I have been actively involved in the appointment of two head teachers and in the conversion of the school to an Academy. During this time all three of my children have progressed through the school, my youngest leaving following A levels in the summer of 2014.

I am a chartered physiotherapist and have been working since 2005 in a small private practice in Adel where I specialise in treating people with neurological conditions. I am an active member of the regional group for physiotherapists with a special interest in neurology. I have also been instrumental in setting up and developing a group to promote better postural care and awareness for care workers.

The skills I think I bring to governors is a determination to work for the best outcomes for the students at Horsforth school and a commitment to being fully involved in the work of the governing body.
